Our Story

The Stewart Vanilla Business, as it was first known, began officially in 1917. Edward Stewart from Lima, Ohio began selling vanilla to neighbors and friends. The vanilla was made from a recipe his mother had learned from an old German candy maker. In the 1930's the company started selling to distributors. In 1965 James O'Neill purchased the vanilla business at that time called the Stewart Extract Company. Over time a variety of new products have been added and that is now reflected in the current name -- Stewart House of Spice. Brian O'Neill, the current owner, took ownership of the family business in 2017.

In 2006, Brian O'Neill purchased the Chef-O-Van Brand Company, which has been a symbol of quality vanillas and extracts since 1935.

Rounding out our family of vanillas and extracts is our LaPura Brand Products found in many Amish country stores.

Brian has maintained the quality of the brands and products and has provided excellent customer service to our customers for over 30 years; which is now located in rural Rockford, Ohio.
